Venetian Impressionism

Venice on Saturday was

dozens of adorable tiny dogs,
women in summer dresses and men in jackets,
a particularly good cannolo (second in my life) from a random bakery,
vaporetto stopping at the other side of the Giardini where we discovered the house with the number 1 (it has something to do with the military),
calmness of Lido,
Mahler's Third Symphony & Oliver Mandić's "Smejem se, a plakao bih" (one of the most mindblowingly brilliant pop songs I've ever heard),
planning to steal a tea bag of Twinings from a bar at Arsenale next to the Greek lions and then forgetting about it,
walking around without any "obligations" (camera, phone -- the photo above is old),
tagliatelle alla busara and carpaccio for lunch,
realizing that Venice actually smells really bad (something I stopped noticing years ago),
frantically scanning bookstores and regretting the limits of my Italian,
thinking that in less than a week I will be in London, skipping university,
and many other things.

I've never been at Venice, it looks like a wonderful place...

I wish you the best at your uni!! And thank you for your sweet comment; yes, the fabric of the skirt is gorgeous, I really love it and I think that's gonna be one of my skirt for this winter!

Just some random thoughts / questions on your post: 1) how was your carpaccio? (I love carpaccio); 2) does "Smejem se, a plakao bih" mean something like: I'm laughing but I feel like crying; 3) how was your 1st day at uni? (I always find them pretty nighmarish).

@fashionblogger
1) There's this restaurant on the island of Lido called Gran Viale which has the best carpaccio ever - the rest of the menu is up to par as well and we always go there. So yes, it was beyond delicious, all of it.

2) It means exactly that. How did you know? ;)

3) My first ever class at uni was canceled without prior notice and the rest of the day was strange like that too. I have a ton of gaps between classes so I cycled from home to uni and back 3 times. All in all it was a pretty versatile mix of recreation and literature. :D

I love Venice!!

Olga,

mwwas!

I speak Polish so just guessed :) I had the exact same experience of gaps between classes in my first undergrad year (I studied literature too so perhaps that's what we all have to go through).

I remember my first and only trip to venice, like, four or five years ago?, and not liking it as much as anyone said they did. Like thinking, what was all the fuss about? But then again, i was far too young, and far too distracted, and maybe far too Italian to even notice. And venice was FAR TOO CROWDED. :)
aww Uni. I can't wait until Uni, seriously. Though i guess I'm pretty much enjoying my years at lyceum- these last two, at the very least- but then again i might just be saying this because I ain't stressed yet and I haven't had any tests till now :D

Tania,
This year we were also there on the day of the carnival (by accident) and it was truly horrible, a mistake we probably won't repeat. I actually prefer not to be there at all when it's really crowded.
What do you want to study, by the way?

Mahler i Oliver Mandić? Otkud ta veza? A Olivera me nakon par godina neslušanja iznenadio visokom razinom produkcije, zapravo svjetskom razinom produkcije.

Venice was beautiful with its colourful buildings, different bridges and tiny pathways. Though I agree that it's much too crowded! I wonder how many true Venetians are still staying there!!

Gorgeous images! I adore Venice. I went there for the first (and only time) a few years ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I was worried it would be too touristy and tacky, but it was so relaxing to not have any cars in the center and walk around the small streets along the canals. It really did make me forget about the rest of the world...
